Ways to Plant Flowers on Your Patio

There are many Garden centers in my area. They have so many beautiful flowers to choose from and it’s hard to choose which ones to purchase for your patio. The varieties are amazing. First and foremost start with a plan. The best thing to do is sit down with a paper and pen and map out a plan of action. Pick a color theme for your flowers and stick with it. Without a plan, you can end up spending too much money and the end result may not be what you had in mind.  This is why the best way to plant flowers in your patio and maintain them on your own is using patio daybeds that will make it much easier for you to control the growth of your plants without spending too much of your time.

Be very sure to avoid disappointment by following your plan and you should have no problems. Shop around for a garden center or a discount store that you like. One suggestion is to make sure it’s close to home in case you forget something and have to go back. You’ll need to purchase enough hanging baskets and potting soil to complete your theme. I always buy miracle-gro to enrich the plants. It’s very important that your hanging baskets have drainage holes in the bottom of your pots for good drainage. This is so important. Buy some containers to place on the ground around the patio. I like long containers, round and square containers. It makes a nice variety for your patio.

I know Planting flowers yourself does involve a certain amount of work but I do promise you that if you tackle this project it will be very worthwhile and you will save money at the same time. The enjoyment and beauty of flowers will make our efforts worth it. With the economy like it is we should all try to save money any way that we can. But with a little work, we can still surround ourselves with beauty.

To save your manicure purchase garden gloves and use them during the planting process. Line your containers up on a picnic table. Place small stones at the bottom of each pot for good drainage. This is a very important step because you always want water drainage. Next, fill them with potting soil about 3/4 full. Place each plant in your container. I always plant three plants in each pot because as they grow they make full blossoms and are so beautiful. After you have your plants in the pots fill in with potting soil to about a 1/2 inch from the lip of the pot. The reason for this is to leave enough room for when you water. You don’t want to have potting soil running over the edge of your pot every time you give your plants water. It would get very messy. Flowers will be growing over the sides and your hanging basket will be as beautiful as any store-bought plant. The best part will be that you know you did all the work yourself. Make sure to water your plants and check them on a regular basis. Every three weeks I give my plants some miracle-gro. The nutrients are very good for your plants. My flowers of choice are inpatients and there is great a variety of colors. Red, Yellow, white, blue, purple and on and on. They are such beautiful flowers. Inpatients are my favorite but there are so many varieties of flowers and you may want to mix and match flowers for your patio. Sometimes I will also plant marigolds in a big barrel. I like the light yellow marigolds but again it just depends on what you like.

If you do decide to plant flowers on your patio I know you will be pleasantly surprised at the beautiful blossoms that have been created by you with a little time and effort.
